The first official day of fall is September 22nd. However, as the weather cools off and the leaves begin to turn, fall activities are in full swing! Getting in the outdoors to enjoy the cooling temperatures and fall foliage are some of the best parts of the season. These accessible fall activities allow individuals of all abilities to enjoy some autumn-themed fun!
Apple Orchards
Apple season runs throughout September and October, creating an opportunity for the perfect fall activity: spending a day at the apple orchards! Whether you hand-pick seasonal apples or enjoy apple desserts and other fall-flavored goodies, there’s a range of activities to enjoy at apple orchards. Many offer accessible spaces with outdoor activities, wide pathways, and seating areas for breaks. The greater Fox Valley is home to a variety of different orchards—check out a list of local orchards here!
Pumpkin Picking
In addition to apple orchards, pumpkin patches are another accessible, outdoor fall activity. With their large fields and easy-to-navigate layouts, pumpkin patches provide plenty of space for everyone to explore at their own pace. Most pumpkin patches have other fall festivities such as corn mazes, farm stands, photo-ops, and more! While going to a pumpkin patch is a fun daytime activity, carving or painting your hand-picked pumpkin is another great activity for a cozy autumn evening.
