Covey’s Adult Family Homes offer a safe, stable environment focused on personal growth and independence. Residents build daily skills while living alongside peers, creating a supportive "family" of friends who share similar interests and experiences.
Families learn to support their loved one’s independence by letting go of full-time caregiving. This freedom allows them to recharge and pursue new interests with peace of mind. By moving beyond the caregiver role, families can relate on a personal level and simply enjoy their time together.
Adult Family Homes foster community appreciation for diversity. Though they look like any other house, they are tailored with accessibility features like wider doorways and lower surfaces. By integrating into neighborhoods, AFHs promote inclusivity and highlight the unique talents of adults with disabilities. Plus, we make great neighbors!

Starling House provides a supportive, empowering home for four men with disabilities. Inspired by the unity of starling birds, we believe we are stronger together. Our warm, open-concept living and dining areas foster connection, while easy access to local parks and resources encourages an active, communal lifestyle.
Finch House, a rare collaboration between Covey, FVTC, and Winnebago County, provides a unique accessible home for four men with disabilities. Named for the finch—a symbol of joy and bright futures—this spacious environment empowers residents to build independence and lead meaningful, connected lives.

Our AFH team is carefully and intentionally selected for each member’s empathy and connection, reliability, and dedication to the Covey mission. Staff receive ongoing education to grow alongside the individuals they serve. They are continuously trained on:
