iCan Shine Bike Camp
The typical Covey program focuses on making progress over years. By comparison, a week at iCan Shine Bike Camp is an instant success!
Our Covey program partners with iCan Shine to teach people with developmental disabilities to ride a two-wheeled bike. It all happens during an intense one-week course. With only 5 or 6 participants per session, each rider has 2 dedicated volunteers for support and encouragement. It’s a huge accomplishment for our riders, and we’re lucky to have wonderful volunteers who are dedicated to each rider’s success.
The Positive Effects of Riding a Bike
When an iCan Shine camper learns to ride a bike, it opens up so many doors. The whole family can start a tradition of pedaling to the park or going on rides around the neighborhood together. It’s great for hanging out with friends and strengthening peer relationships, too. Biking is also a form of transportation, and the ability to get from Point A to Point B is a key step on the path to independence.
By the end of June, Covey will have plenty of new riders on “two-wheelers!”
